The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at Rhodes College is seeking to appoint a full-time instructor of Spanish, beginning August 2021. This is a three-year nontenurable contract with the possibility of renewal pending departmental need and satisfactory performance. We seek candidates with native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English, a strong background in beginning and intermediate language teaching, experience teaching Spanish at the university level, and who demonstrate familiarity with current methods in second-language pedagogy. Proven experience in coordination (course, level, or program) and curriculum development will be a plus. Master's degree in Spanish or M.A.T. in Spanish required. Teaching load will be three courses per semester, from first to third-semester Spanish language classes. The position also includes academic advising, as well as contributing to co-curricular offerings and activities in the department. The option exists for the new hire to apply for directorship of Rhodes College Language Learning Center for additional compensation, but this is not a requirement of the job.
