Information Technology and Business Faculty
Rappahannock Community College, a two-campus institution serving a rural 12-county area in the Chesapeake Bay region of Virginia, seeks applicants for the following faculty-ranked teaching position in Information Technology and Business (F0071). This position is a nine-month appointment with an excellent benefits package; salary commensurate with education and experience but no less than $43,776. Position begins August 16, 2021.
The College desires candidates with a commitment to the community college mission and experience working in a diverse student population, including adult learners and at-risk students. The successful candidate will be committed to academic excellence, continuous improvement through professional development, assessment, program and course development, and creating a collegial environment of civility, collaboration and open communication. The college strives for a faculty of content experts who are also knowledgeable about best practices, innovative strategies, and instructional technologies that support teaching and learning. Outreach and service to the college community (developing partnerships, academic advising, and committee work and faculty governance) along with the ability to teach 15 credits per semester. Finalists will be asked to perform a teaching demonstration.
Duties and responsibilities will primarily include teaching transfer-level information technology courses and non-transfer introductory business courses. Other duties will include, but are not limited to facilitating student learning through in class and out of class activities, maintaining up to date knowledge in information technology practices, trends in community college and business education, and using a variety of instructional delivery systems including interactive video, web, and other electronic media. Many Information technology/business courses are currently taught online, but position requires a strong on-campus presence. Teaching faculty will advise students, collaborate with colleagues, adopt textbooks, draft course syllabi, develop new courses, participate in assessment and improvement activities related to course/curriculum/instruction, mentor adjunct faculty, assist with dual enrollment initiatives, and participate in college governance committees. Teaching assignments and schedule may include day and evening assignments, cross-campus or off-campus assignments, and teaching concurrently enrolled high school students. Candidates must be technologically capable to provide remote instruction during campus closures, as in the current COVID-19 pandemic. Faculty will be asked to perform business management program head duties.
KSA’s/Required Qualifications: Master’s degree in any field with 9 graduate credits in either Information Technology or Computer Information Systems and a willingness to obtain a total of 18 graduate hours in either IT or CIS within a year. And, an associate’s or bachelor’s in business or 18 graduate hours in business. Candidates should possess sufficient technology skills to work productively in an organization that utilizes significant information and instructional technology resources.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience teaching college level courses and using distance learning modalities. Familiarity with community college instruction and student populations.
