Director of Risk Management

The College of New Jersey (www.tcnj.edu) invites applications for the position Director of The College of New Jersey’s Risk Management program within the Facilities Management department.

Operations Division.  This position directly reports to the Associate Vice President for Facilities Management.  The priority of work for this position will be assigned from the Associate Vice President for Facilities Management or from the risk sub-committee that reports to the Board of Trustees.     

Risk Management.  This position is responsible for leading a proactive and collaborative approach to daily risk management across campus.  Working in partnership with departments across campus, the position is responsible for approaching compliance, risk, and loss control matters with a problem-solving perspective that enables the College to accomplish its mission-related educational goals. This position oversees organizational compliance with local, state and federal risk management.  The position’s responsibilities and interests encompass a broad perspective across campus that involves the health and safety considerations of students, employees and visitors, protection of physical and financial assets, maintenance of reputation, and continuity of operation as an institution of higher education. Responsibilities include managing the College’s property and other insurance programs, leading proactive risk assessment and reduction strategies, and facilitating solutions to risk related issues. The Director will use industry best practices to identify and prioritize risks to assigned program areas including Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Safety and Compliance, Life Safety and Fire Prevention, and Laboratory Safety.  The Director will lead a collaborative process to develop and execute risk mitigation strategies including administrative controls such as policy and procedure development, engineering controls such as repair and replacement projects, and shall ensure that documentation and reporting meets all Federal, State and local requirements.  The Director will monitor and report on risk reduction strategies through Key Performance Indicators.

Director of Risk Management will develop, coordinate, and administer programs and policies within the area of traditional risk management at TCNJ to include facilitating student and employee insurance programs.  The Director will achieve cost savings and will support grant awards in the area of risk management.  The Director will coordinate with all areas across campus for risk management programs and associated insurance requirements.  The Director will serve as the TCNJ subject matter expert on insurance risk and risk mitigation across assigned program areas. 

Insurance program administrator for the following: Property Insurance; New Jersey Educational Facilities Authority (NJEFA) Liability Insurance; FEMA Claims; Student Blanket Professional Liability Insurance; Student Health Insurance; Student Organization Insurance; Student Athletic NCAA Accident Insurance; Fine Arts Insurance; Cyber Liability Insurance; Tort Claims; State Auto Liability Program; Executive Auto Insurance; Commercial Crime/Employee Theft and Dishonesty Insurance; and Tenant User Liability Insurance Program (TULIP).  Some other example program administration responsibilities include:  Business Continuity Plan Coordinator; having a leadership role on the College Emergency Response Team; and Student Travel. 

Director of Risk Management will provide customer service to the campus community regarding some of the following topics:  Drivers License Verifications, Risk Assessments, Risk Mitigation, Liability Concerns, Risk Tolerance Questions, and Insurance Requirements for goods and services. 

Qualifications and Competencies

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (Business, Law, Finance, Insurance, Risk Management, or other related field) is required with a Master’s Degree preferred.  A minimum of 10 years of applicable experience required in traditional or operational risk management.  Preferred to have the following:  Certified by the Associate in Risk Management (ARM) or Certified Risk Manager (CRM) or Chartered Property Casualty Underwrite (CPCU). Preferred experience with insurance claims and claims monitoring.
