Title: Program Coordinator





Position Purpose:

The Program Coordinator is an integral member of the Office of Intercultural Education (OIE), which is charged with creating a holistic, student-centered environment that cultivates community and belonging, provides resources for students’ personal and academic success, and connects students to opportunities for campus engagement. This hands-on position provides direct support for an increasingly diverse Bates College community utilizing excellent customer service skills. The Program Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the OIE and coordinating and facilitating community-building programming. In this role, they will develop policies and procedures, supervise student employees, and manage OIE communications and marketing. As the point person for OIE events and programs, they will coordinate logistics and serve as a visible professional staff presence. Additional responsibilities include: reconciling and monitoring the OIE budget; supporting identity-based student organizations; and additional duties as assigned.

Job Duties:

• Develop, implement, maintain, and assess policies and protocols associated with OIE operations.
• Assure equity, inclusion, access, and anti-racism as central to their work and the delivery of services to faculty, staff, and students.
• Recruit, hire, train, and supervise student employees, including OIE Fellows as applicable.
• Manage OIE space reservations.
• Monitor and reconcile the OIE budget.
• Manage office, program, and event marketing and communications, including social media campaigns, to increase on-campus awareness of OIE events and services.
• Oversee event and program logistics and serve as a staff presence at events, as appropriate.
• Support and collaborate with identity-based student organizations, with a particular focus on community-building programming, including staffing frequent late-night and weekend events.
• Partner with the Office of Campus Life to develop and facilitate orientations and leadership training (i.e., Bates Leads) for student leaders of identity-based organizations.
• Serve as an informal mentor and advisor for students who frequent the OIE.
• Be a visible presence in the OIE, including on nights and weekends as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education

Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred.

Experience

2-3 years of relevant professional experience.
Experience in the field of student affairs and student-facing diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice work.
Ability to work flexible hours, including weekend and evening hours.

Skills and Knowledge

Commitment to working with BIPOC, LGBTQIAP2+, and first-generation students, their families, and campus support structures to facilitate their academic, co-curricular, and personal success and development.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and student privacy as appropriate.

Effective interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills and the ability to coordinate resources and staff within the college community.

Solid understanding of the academic and social challenges experienced by marginalized students in a college environment.

Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment.

Proficiency in basic data management systems, computer applications, and social media platforms.

Demonstrated commitment to practices in equity, inclusion, access, and anti-racism and to serving the needs of a culturally and educationally diverse and inclusive community with diplomacy and tact.
