Job Description
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Prescott, Arizona campus is hiring a Painter to join the Facilities Management Team. Embry-Riddle's Prescott Campus is respected worldwide for cutting-edge instruction and training for tomorrow’s aviation, aerospace, security and intelligence leaders. Prescott is a mile-high city and its climate reflects seasonable weather excellent for flying. Daytime averages are 80°F in the summer and 45°F in the winter. At 5,000 ft. above sea level, it boasts a mild climate, clean air, pristine wilderness areas, and nearby national forests. The university is a small, private, residential university in the mountains of Arizona with approximately 3,500 students. Staff/faculty/student interaction is highly valued and is a central theme of our campus. It is located 100 miles north of Phoenix and 120 miles south of the Grand Canyon.
Job Summary/Scope:
Using built up scaffolding, step ladders, extension ladders, stringers, stages, lifts, aerial booms, etc. prepare, patch, finish, paint and maintain all exterior and interior surfaces (wood, plaster, drywall, steel, concrete, masonry, etc.) by industry standard procedures and techniques of the painting trade including sand blasting, brushing, rolling and spray painting application techniques. Execute interior and exterior wall repairs including installing sheetrock, tape, sand, finish and texture sheetrock, paint, wall coverings, stucco, and masonry.
This is a multifunction position. While the primary focus is on Painting projects and drywall maintenance, this position is frequently required to assist with other aspects of facility maintenance or to monitor the performance and/or products of contractors and vendors as they work for Embry-Riddle.

These duties may include:
- Executes assigned exterior and interior finish work orders in a
timely manner, ensures job is completed to the campus standard and
closes the work order out through the handheld tablet linked to the
CMMS system.
- Assist with developing and executing an exterior and interior
paint/finish schedule to ensure a frequency necessary to maintain
Embry-Riddle's property investment to quality standards and
reliability with emphasis on safety.
- Carries out schedules and tasks with a high level of
craftsmanship and professionalism.
- Works with the Purchasing/Property Control Coordinator to
submit purchase requests in the CMMS system in accordance with
established painting work orders and schedules to ensure ready
availability of materials, supplies and equipment required. Works
with Coordinator to determine and monitor stock Inventory levels
which pertain to the painting department.
- Evaluates available paint and finish products, standardizes
products and colors to achieve economy.
- Coordinate with Departments to ensure availability of surfaces
to be painted and minimize hindrance to ongoing operations.
- Responsible for coordination of special projects with outside
contractors.
- Submits all man-hours utilized in performing painting functions
in the CMMS system.
- Responsible for the inventory and safe usage of Embry-Riddle's
equipment and tools assigned to the Painting department.
- Assist with Event Support setup and pickup of tables, chairs,
stage, podiums, etc.
- Assist with snow and ice removal activities using both hand
shovels and powered snow removal equipment.
Qualifications
- High school (or GED) level ability in spelling, grammar, basic
composition, and math.
- Read and comprehend instructions, write information, and
complete simple forms.
- 5 years, or more, having achieved a journeyman level of
experience or journeyman certification in professional painting
preferably in an educational, municipal or commercial environment
to include
- Able to use step ladders, extension ladders, scaffolding,
scissor lifts, aerial lifts to reach building interior and
exteriors. There are many 2 and 3 story buildings on campus. Brush,
roller, and paint spraying painting practices, processes, tools and
materials.
- Knowledge of paint types, qualities, finishes and purposes as
well as safe handling and disposal regulations.
- Surface preparation for a variety of indoor and outdoor painted
surfaces.
- Ability to produce the level of quality necessary to meet
Embry-Riddle and industry standards.
- Arizona Driver’s License and clean MVD driving record and the
ability to operate campus vehicles and equipment in a safe,
responsible manner.
- Must be able to lift heavy objects of at least 50 pounds.
- Ability to use computer tablet to input work order service
details in to the CMMS system.
- Must be awake and alert at all times
- OSHA 10 Certified
