Opening Details

This is an exciting moment to be joining the Office of Admission at Williams. As we prepare to bid farewell to four terrific colleagues who are heading off to graduate school and retirement, we look forward to growing our dynamic, hard-working and diverse team that is passionate about recruiting and enrolling exceptional students from a wide range of backgrounds, and that has a lot of fun together.

The college is pleased to announce an opening for the position of Assistant Director of Admission in the Office of Admission. This is a full-time, year-round, regular appointment reporting to a senior member of the admission team. The Assistant Director of Admission is part of a 28-member admission and student financial services team and participates in all aspects of the admission process, including: meeting with prospective students and families; leading public presentations; recruitment travel; reviewing and evaluating applications for admission; serving as a full-voting member of the Admission Committee; and working with current students, staff, faculty, and alumni to organize and facilitate recruitment events both on and off campus.

We will utilize the specific strengths, experiences, and interests of our new colleague in order to provide the greatest opportunities for professional growth and advance the ambitious goals of the office. To this end, the Assistant Director of Admission will oversee a portfolio that might include, among other areas: work related to the recruitment of first-generation college students, low-income students, Black, indigenous and POC students and international students; management of office social media accounts and website; collaboration with the college’s central communications office to develop print and digital recruitment content; analysis of data to assess past and current practices and inform future initiatives; and oversight of some aspects of the prospective student and family campus visit experience. Our expectation is that the successful candidate will excel at working in a community that is broadly diverse with regard to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion, and we encourage candidates to highlight relevant experiences in their cover letter.

Recruited and chosen through a highly selective admission process, undergraduates come to Williams from around the world and a wide variety of backgrounds. Sixteen percent are first-generation college students, 21 percent are Pell Grant recipients, and 38 percent are U.S. students of color. Nine percent are international. The college is deeply committed to access. More than half of all students receive financial aid and among aided families, the average cost is about $16,000. Many pay nothing at all, and indebtedness rates at graduation are among the nation’s lowest.
