Job Description:
The Department of English seeks a specialist in Technical Communication, with a preferred emphasis in one or more of the following areas: agricultural communication, environmental communication, engineering writing, and scientific writing. Responsibilities include teaching courses in the program's curriculum at the introductory, upper-level, and graduate levels and developing one or more courses in the candidate's area of specialization, in both face-to-face and online formats. In addition, candidates must be prepared to teach writing-intensive general education courses. Experience teaching technical/business communication at the college level is required, as is demonstrated preparation to teach online.

Continued scholarly activity, undergraduate and graduate advising, and service on department or university committees are also required. University teaching load is 24 credits per year (typical English Department load is three 4-credit courses per semester).

• A typical faculty workload responsibility may include up to twenty four (24) credits of instruction per academic year.
• The successful candidate may need to teach in other areas as assigned and qualified.
• May be expected to develop and deliver face-to-face, hybrid, and on-line instruction at the Mankato campus, online, and/or at the university's additional locations, as assigned.
• The successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues in curriculum design, instruction and evaluation, conduct research productively and mentor students in research, help create innovative strategies for student recruitment, retention, and completion, and may be expected to develop external grant funding opportunities.
• All faculty members are expected to engage in scholarly or creative activity or research, in continuing preparation and study, in contributing to student growth and development, and in providing service to the university and community (See Article 22 and Appendix G of the IFO Master Agreement)

Required Qualifications:

• Terminal degree in Technical Communication or closely related field, conferred on an official transcript by September 30, 2021.
• College-level teaching experience in technical/business communication, writing, or closely related field.
• Professional experience in technical communication (industry, nonprofit, or internship).
• Demonstrated experience with online education.
• Relevant scholarly activity.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.
• Demonstrated effective written, oral communication and/or presentation skills.
• Specialization in one or more of the following areas: agricultural communication, environmental communication, engineering writing, scientific writing
• Experience teaching synchronously online.
• Demonstrated preparation to teach writing-intensive courses in business/technical communication.
• Grant-writing experience.
• Record of successful contributions to student growth and development.
• Record of successful workplace collaboration or other departmental, college, or university service.
• Scholarly or research interests that will advance the mission and goals of the English department at Minnesota
