Faculty, Tenure Track, Assistant Professor - Graduate - School Counseling

Position Category: Faculty - Tenure Track (FT)

Summary:
UVU's Master of Education program is seeking an 11-month tenure track faculty member in the new School Counseling program to start July 2021. Responsibilities include designing, preparing, and teaching graduate courses; supporting the scheduling of courses in School Counseling; and assisting with the field placements and site visits. Faculty members will engage in research and scholarly activities; attend meetings in the School of Education to coordinate programming and student success; support the review of graduate applications and coordinate interviews for students interested in the School of Education emphasis; participate in the School of Education accreditation process; and engage with students and colleagues in service across campus and in the community. Candidates must be available to teach summer and evening courses.

Required Qualifications:
Ph.D. in School Counseling or a related field is required. Experience teaching subject within School Counseling program to graduate students as well as promoting student retention and success.
School Counseling license is required.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of subject matter and course content.
  • Knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques in upper and lower division courses.
  • Knowledge of student management, motivation, evaluation; evaluation of (peer and self) instruction.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Ethics and Competencies in School Counseling.
  • Knowledge of and expertise in current trends in Theories of Counseling, Career Counseling, and outcomes measurement.
  • Skills in effective instructional strategies and techniques.
  • Effective interpersonal, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Skills in modifying course content, developing original course content, and delivering course content in person, online, or in hybrid formats.
  • Skills in conducting and disseminating original research in publication and presentation format.
  • Skills in developing, leading, and maintaining committees and work groups.
  • Ability to manage, motivate, and evaluate students and instruction.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to work with students in different environments.
  • Ability to facilitate the growth and development of the program.
  • Ability to maintain a spirit of collegiality with colleagues, students, and administrators even in stressful times.
  • Ability to organize, coordinate, and facilitate clinical practicum experiences in public and private schools.


Preferred Qualifications:


Physical Requirements:
Frequently standing, walking, and sitting. Frequent use of fine-hand manipulation associated with the use of a computer. Consistently talking, hearing, and speaking.
Work is normally performed in a typical classroom/office work environment.
