Job Description
55%, College Wide support for disability services personnel:
Responsible for training, leadership, and oversight for disability
services college-wide. Collaborate with disability services
personnel to determine appropriate and reasonable accommodations.
Train and education students and faculty as needed on
implementation of disability services. Coordinate with facilities
on physical accommodations for students, including classroom
placement of special chairs and desk, classroom changes, etc.
Requisition sign language interpreting services for deaf students.
Coordinate with interpreters and other service providers to
schedule support for in-class and co-curricular activities.
Collaborate with testing center to meet student accommodation
needs. Collect and provide data on disability services to VCCS.
Provide leadership and services for students with disabilities.
Write and approve accommodation letters for students with
disabilities. Stay informed of current legal requirements related
to the evaluation of academic accommodations and adjustments for
students with disabilities in higher education. Develop processes
and services to continuously improve the delivery of services to
students with disabilities. Effectively communicate student needs
associated with disability service with college staff, including
Testing Center, Financial Aid, Advising, Student Support Programs,
and Admissions and Records. Collaborate with faculty to ensure
appropriate academic accommodations are implemented for eligible
students. Travel among all campuses as required.
25% Student Advising and Case Management: Promote student development and provide outstanding level of academic advising in a positive, supportive environment for future and current students, parents, and other community members. Serve as the dedicated advisor/case manager for all students with disabilities at the Middletown campus. Provide leadership to develop in-person and virtual advising experiences for students with disabilities. Assist with planning and implementing workshops and services each semester supporting student development, success, and retention to students, groups, and faculty at LFCC and in the community. Collaborate with other Student Services team members to provide outstanding programs and services. Collaborate with faculty to improve student experiences within the classroom.
10% TRIO Student Support Services Case Management: Serve as the primary case manager for TRIO participants with disabilities. Responsible for advising, transfer planning, referrals to campus and community services, assistance with financial aid and scholarship applications. Responsible for keeping detailed records and notes on each interaction with students and supporting grant reporting activities.
8% Administrative Services to the College: Serve as evening administrator on duty for the college through 7:30 pm as requested up to 7 evenings per semester. Remain current with college crisis and emergency protocol. Liaison with campus police, facilities, and learning personnel. Provide positive support, collaboration, and leadership within the Student Services team. Serve on committees, professional development activities, and other duties as assigned. Regularly assist in evaluating and redesigning internal processes within the Student Services Team to improve customer service, efficiency, and effectiveness. Serve on the Student Support Team and provide crisis intervention and community referrals for students as needed.
2% Continuous improvement: Actively participates in and shares learning experiences, especially within the VCCS, and the primary transfer institutions for our students. Assists in ensuring that our Student Services Team is utilizing best practices. Regularly assist in evaluating and redesigning internal processes to maximize Student Services Team efficiency and effectiveness. Occasional travel for conferences and other educational opportunities.
Compensation and Benefits
The minimum salary for
this restricted position is $56,610.00 per year, however, actual
starting salary will commensurate with education and/or experience.
The position is restricted, with funding through August 31, 2025.
The position is a 12-month professional faculty role and as such is
eligible for the benefits package offered by the Commonwealth of
Virginia for state agencies and the Virginia Community College

Positions are appointed on a course-by-course, semester basis as needed. KSA's/Required Qualifications
- Masters Degree in special education, psychology, counseling, social work, or other closely related field.
- Experience working collaboratively with and advocating for diverse student populations and/or community members.
- Diverse knowledge of human behavior, theories of learning processes, and/or theories on student motivation and retention strategies.
- Ability to provide crisis care or assisting to manage conflicts diplomatically
- Knowledge of ADA laws as they relate to the learning environment.
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Flexibility and resourcefulness in problem solving
