New York Genome Center seeks an experienced strategic leader with a track record of success in executive positions within complex, multi-constituent, mission-driven organizations.  The Chief Financial Officer is responsible for the organization’s overall financial leadership, strategic financial planning and financial operations management. In addition, this individual will lead several functional departments, including Finance & Accounting, Research Administration and Facilities. Reporting to the Scientific Director & Chief Executive Officer, this position is a key member of the Executive Team.

The successful candidate will have: a Master’s degree in finance, business, or related field; a bachelor’s degree may be acceptable if combined with significant professional experience; directly related progressive financial experience in nonprofit environments involving the planning and developing of multi-million-dollar budgets, implementation of strategic business plans, treasury management, investments, debt and insurance activities required. Experience managing the financial and operational functions of an academic, medical or research institution strongly preferred; 10+ years’ experience as a hands-on manager, with a strong commitment to team development and experience leading, managing and developing a diverse, high caliber, and highly collaborative team; Substantial familiarity with federal grants management and compliance issues; A leadership style that prioritizes and values diversity & inclusion.

The New York Genome Center (NYGC) is an independent, nonprofit, academic research organization dedicated to advancing genomic research. NYGC scientists and staff are furthering new approaches to diagnosing and treating neurological diseases and cancer through their unique capabilities in whole genome sequencing, RNA sequencing, state-of-the art analytics, and the development of genomic tools. NYGC concentrates specifically on disease-based research in the following areas: neuropsychiatric disease (autism, schizophrenia, bipolar); neurodegenerative disease (ALS, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Huntington’s), and cancer. 

Located in Lower Manhattan, the New York Genome Center was founded by and remains closely affiliated with relevant leading academic medical centers and research universities in the New York region, engaging in research projects with and for these institutions. Essential to our collaborative work is an outstanding faculty, whose members typically hold a joint appointment at NYGC and a partner university. They support our scientific mission by conducting independent research in areas of mutual interest to us and the wider scientific community.
