The Manship School of Mass Communication and the Reilly Center for Media & Public Affairs at Louisiana State University seeks applications for the Lamar Family Post-doctoral Researcher to collaborate with Manship School researchers on communication and issues of diversity, equity and inclusion. This is a nine-month position beginning in August 2021 through May 2022.

The Lamar Postdoctoral Researcher will work closely with Dr. Tina Harris, the Douglas L. Manship Sr.-Dori Maynard Race, Media, and Cultural Literacy Endowed Chair, on research surrounding issues of diversity, equity and inclusion in communication. We seek a scholar with interests in race, media and culture. This includes, but is not limited, to areas related to digital and social media, media effects, and critical media representations. The Lamar Postdoctoral Researcher will also work with other researchers in the Manship School of Mass Communication on their own research and collaborative research projects. The focus of these projects will fit the background and expertise of the postdoctoral researcher and could result in journal publications or creative work such as blogs and social media streams. The Lamar Postdoctoral Researcher will be an affiliate of the Reilly Center for Media & Public Affairs. The position will include teaching responsibilities as well as an opportunity to work with the Reilly Center to develop public engagement opportunities.

Job responsibilities:

Teach one class (“Multiculturalism in the Media” or other related course) per semester – 25%

Research, working with faculty on projects – 40%

Publish in journals or produce a white paper or other creative work – 20%

Develop public engagement opportunities in partnership with the Reilly Center – 15%

Required Qualifications:

Candidates must complete all requirements for a Ph.D. in Mass Communication, Political Science, Sociology or a related field before their appointment.
