Concordia University Chicago (CUC) seeks applicants for the full-time, exempt position of Lead Teacher in the Early Childhood Education Center. This position reports to the Director of the center and is located in River Forest, IL.

Responsibilities/Duties:

The Lead Teacher position is responsible to provide for the development of each child spiritually, socially, intellectually, physically, and emotionally. It is necessary for the Lead Teacher to collaborate and plan with co-teacher in the implementation of the curriculum and to participate as a contributing member of the center's professional team in staff meetings, devotions, community activities and professional leadership.

The Lead Teacher will also supervise university undergraduate and graduate students who are assigned to work in the classrooms. He or she will prepare, care for, and organize the environment, including opening the classroom and making it ready for parents and children

The Lead Teacher will keep up with day to day tasks such as monitoring small groups and/or free choice play time and keep daily records of attendance, maintain up to date portfolios on all children throughout the year as a means of assessment of learning

The Lead Teacher is expected to exhibit a service mentality towards all customers. All communication with customers is expected to be effective, professional, accurate and timely. This includes maintaining appropriate contact with and support of parents/families including newsletter, conferences, parent meetings, Curriculum Night and Thanksgiving service

The Lead Teacher will also be responsible for following standards set by DCFS (Department of Children and Family Services ), NLSA (National Lutheran School Association) and NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children), following guidelines as employee of Concordia University as listed in Staff Handbook, and to promote Center's Mission/Vision statement..

Skill Sets:

Necessary skills include strong administrative skills, superior communication skills, computer literacy, excellent written and oral skills, attention to detail, and the ability to supervise and work with others. It is also necessary that the Lead teacher is an enthusiastic supporter of Lutheran education and Concordia University Chicago and has knowledge of the University's mission and vision, the College of Education goals and how the Center supports the academic programs.

Bachelor's Degree in related field required

Compensation and Benefits:

Starting range is dependent upon individual qualifications and experience. Concordia health, disability and retirement plan enrollment is available to full-time employees and their eligible dependents. Tuition benefits may also be available for employees and their qualified dependents.
