Assistant Professor of American Sign Language Interpreting
Gardner-Webb University is seeking qualified candidates for a tenure track position as Assistant Professor of American Sign Language Interpreting. Applicants should have a doctorate in Interpreting, superior or superior plus on the Sign Communication Proficiency Interview, National Interpreter Certification and the ability to get a NC Interpreting License. Candidates should have a strong commitment to undergraduate education and public outreach. Preferred qualifications include ASLTA certification or willingness to get it, and training as a SLPI evaluator or willingness to get it. Qualified individuals lacking a doctorate may be considered, depending on the applicant pool, although as a non-tenure track instructor. The candidate should be able to teach a full range of Interpreting courses and lower level ASL courses.
Gardner-Webb University currently offers a four year degree in American Sign Language with a minor in interpreting. Our goal is to prepare students to interpret in the community, to teach ASL, and to have the language skills and cultural sensitivity necessary to work with deaf people in a variety of settings. Many of our students further their education with graduate degrees in Deaf Education, Counseling, and Social Work.

The University desires to fill the positions no later than August 1, 2021. Salary and benefits are competitive with institutions of a similar size and purpose. Screening of applicants will begin April 15, 2021 and will continue until the position is filled.
