Position Summary:
A visionary leader,
reporting directly to the President, the provost/vice president is
the chief academic officer and member of the college’s executive
leadership team. The provost/vice president for learning is
responsible for providing vision and driving change in the areas of
educational policy and partnerships, academic planning, assessment,
academic personnel actions, faculty development, and resource
planning and allocation.
The successful candidate leads and provides oversight to all academic programs including the Schools of Liberal Arts; Science, Technology and Education; Health Sciences; Continuing Education and Workforce Development; Business and Law; and Learning Advancement and the Virtual Campus; and Planning, Research, and Institutional Assessment. The position ensures innovation is supported throughout the offerings of the college. As a member of the executive team, the provost/vice president collaborates with the vice president for learner support services, vice president for learning resources management, and the vice president of information technology in support of the college’s mission.
Through a demonstrated commitment to antiracism, equity, diversity and inclusion, the provost/vice president must have the ability to build and maintain strong and collegial relationships with students, faculty, staff, administrators, the board of trustees, community and industry stakeholders. Being adept at making data-driven decisions is essential, as well as having a strong commitment to the community college mission, values, equity, student access and success.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, most AACC employees are currently working remotely. Only individuals who are residents of Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia are eligible for employment at the college. You must reside in one of these states prior to a determined start date.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Leads, directs and oversees the management of all aspects of the instructional programs, curricula and pedagogy, including enrollment development through the deans, assistant deans, directors, and department chairs, academic planning, research, assessment, comprehensive program reviews, accreditation, and resources management. Advances and sustains a culture of excellence in teaching and learning throughout the college, demonstrating a collegial, collaborative, and transparent commitment to shared governance.
- Working with the college president, provides strategic planning leadership for the institution, to include clarity of process, goal setting and benchmarking. Ensures that unit reviews, their results, and learning outcomes assessment are implemented and drive continuous improvement and innovation. Works with areas across the college to ensure planning, budgeting and assessment are linked. Clearly prioritizes the goals of the division. Provides direction and reasonable timelines. Sets clear goals that are measurable and data driven. Uses a project management based model that ensures the identification and definition of clear priorities.
- Leads all programs and activities related to learning with a student-centered approach to access, success, equity, completion, and transfer. Oversees curricular planning for the division, to include programming and developing partnerships with internal and external constituencies to ensure the strategic plan goals are achieved. Collaborates with learner support services to ensure pathways for students are clear and intentionally focused on student learning outcomes. Implements and uses curricular assessment and strategic scheduling for student success.
- Anticipates and leads complex program accreditation, in addition to Middle States Accreditation. Commitment to quality, accountability and excellence is expected.
- Ensures compliance with all governing policies, standards, education codes, and state/federal laws.
Required Qualifications:
- A terminal degree.
- At least 10 years of experience in higher education with at
least:
- Three years as a dean or comparative level with large scale personnel management AND
- Five years teaching experience
- Understands and demonstrates advocacy and success with implementing and overseeing equitable and inclusive policies and practices that support and sustain a diverse and inclusive campus community.
- Experience with strategic planning to include experience using analytics to determine direction. Familiarity with assessment techniques to measure success and ensure accountability.
- Experience with course/program development and analysis and reporting to external agencies/program accrediting bodies. Experience overseeing, managing and aligning budgets, grants, and resources effectively and strategically.
- Demonstrated achievement in promoting student success including, but not limited to, addressing equity gaps, ensuring equitable enrollment and retention and increasing student completion.
- Understands the value and importance of collaboration and partnership development/maintenance internally as well as external to the college. Currency with educational trends in order to continue to drive the college’s reputation for innovation and excellence.
- Experience with, and demonstrated promotion of, shared governance and the ability to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders to successfully lead the division.
- Demonstrated strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in a community college
- Vice President or executive level experience providing oversight and strategic direction in an academic environment. Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement and innovation in higher education.
- Experience with continuing education and workforce development programs including apprenticeships, adult basic education, English language learning and contract training as well as Associate of Applied Science degrees leading to career pathways.
- Earned tenure in academic discipline or meets the minimal requirements to have earned tenure.
