Job Description

Reporting to the Director of Student Engagement and Campus Life, the Associate Director for Events and Operations joins a team of professionals who uplift the Aspirations for Student Learning (Commit to unwavering curiosity, Pursue self-understanding and integrity, Practice civility, Prepare for a life of courageous leadership, and Embrace Ut Prosim as a way of life), the Six Dimension of Well-Being and the Principles of Community throughout all responsibilities of the position. The primary responsibilities include the development and implementation of purposeful and learning-centered programs and services as well as building affirming environments where students are seen, heard, and valued. As a member of the executive leadership team, the associate director works with director and two other associate directors to assist in the development, enhancement, support, and assessment of campus events, student-centered services, student organizations, student employee learning, three student centers, and the University Chapel.
S/he/They actively participates in strategic planning, budget development, policy creation and execution, and is responsible for developing and conducting on-going assessment of programs and services. The associate director is integral to the continued growth of a dynamic, student-center, and engaging environment and will display a coaching supervisory style as they work with two assistant directors and two coordinators. The successful candidate will be team focused, capable of building robust relationships and networks, strong problem-solving skills, and have a win-win strategy to solution creation.
The Associate Director for Events and Operations oversees Event Services, Production Services, Building Operations for three student centers and the University Chapel (including custodial services), and Facility Planning (including maintenance services). Working with Event Services and Production Services as a student organization member allows for a hands-on, learning experience where a student learns to interpret policy, solution creation, financial management, event execution, participate safety and so much more. This is a learning opportunity and the Associate Director will assure that every interaction is built as such.
Indicators of this position’s success include measurable success in supporting student organizations, departments, and off-campus clients through a meaningful event management process, advocacy for student organization event needs including accessible indoor and outdoor venues, and continued good stewardship in the planning of facility renovation and replacement needs.

Required Qualifications

The selected individual must demonstrate experience working with event management, progressive responsibility in a student center or related setting, supervising and leading multiple teams, ability to collaborate with colleagues and partners, managing multiple financial streams (fees, revenue, expense, etc.), ability to problem solve, make data driven decisions, and an unrelenting commitment to student success, social justice, and learning. A Masters Degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs or a related field and 5-7 years of experience is required. The Associate Director should be collaborative, positive, and a self-starter with high levels of communication, and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated experience using the Event Management Software (EMS), navigating complex organizations and policies, and a demonstrated knowledge of the unique needs of undergraduate and graduate students.
