Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities
Opportunity to conduct cutting edge experiments using optogenetics in the field of neuroscience, exploring mechanisms, and physiological effects and potential treatments of traumatic brain injury. Laboratory specialist will have a primary role in immunohistochemistry, brain injury modeling and animal surgeries but will also maintain a mouse colony with multiple transgenic and cross bred strains. This involves breeding animals on appropriate schedule such that other laboratory members have the experimental animals they need, as well as maintaining records in an online database. Will also be responsible for ordering lab and surgical supplies.
Minimum Hiring Standards
Ability to learn new software programs quickly and to adjust schedule to demands of experiment required.
Ability to work in a diverse environment required.
Preferred Hiring Standards
Laboratory and/or animal handling experience preferred. Knowledge and/or experience with the following preferred: handling and/or breeding rodents, proper methodology for making molar solutions, performing immunohistochemical studies, performing immunohistochemistry, and using advanced microscope techniques. Proficiency with Excel, Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Powerpoint, and EndNote preferred. Additional experience with patch clamp recording and in vivo viral transfection studies preferred.
