The Social Determinants/Health Disparities Laboratory ( www.lorrainereitzel.com ) in the College of Education is seeking a Program Director 2 to oversee and manage multiple externally-funded projects and collaborations aimed at advancing health equity by: 1) addressing tobacco use disparities within behavioral health settings through the dissemination and implementation of evidence-based practices ( www.takingtexastobaccofree.com ), and 2) training the next generation of diverse scholars in cancer prevention/addictions research ( www.uhandpartnership.com ). Responsibilities include providing cross-coverage for research studies by coordinating and maintaining records, including for the distribution of program incentives; project and team management and supervision; assisting with development of program timelines and monitoring progress towards meeting program goals and deliverables; coordinating research data to ensure proper collection and distribution; preparing information for monthly, quarterly, and annual grant reports as required by the funders; assisting with grant application authorship/compilation and post-award budget management. Candidates will represent the team’s work internally and externally and should have demonstrated excellence in scientific written and oral communication skills, and a strong commitment and passion to advance health equity. Experience or training in community-based work is preferred. Other important skills include attention to detail, open communication, good time management skills, appreciation for the importance of racial/ethnic diversity in science, and the desire and ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

The candidate should live in or be prepared to relocate to Houston, Texas following hire; however, all work will be conducted remotely due to the pandemic until it is safer to return to campus. Please direct questions about the position to Lrreitzel@uh.edu .

  7. Represents department or center to internal and external constituents.
  8. Performs other job-related duties as required.

Qualifications :

Bachelors and 5 years experience

Education: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed.

Experience: Requires a minimum of five (5) years of directly job-related experience.

Certification/Licensing: None.
