Schedule Information: 8:00am-4:30pm, Monday - Friday. Employee is on call 24/7/52 to respond to communications and/or safety problems within the Emergency Communication Center.

Hours per Week: 40

Work Conditions: Work is primarily indoors. Employee is on call 24/7/52 to respond to communications and/or safety problems within the communications center.

Duties of Position: Supervises non-sworn CSO & Records personnel. Assigns duties as workload priorities dictate and oversees assignment completion. Approves vacation days, monitors sick time, meets regularly to discuss operations, proposes operational adjustments when appropriate, and initiates corrective action when needed. Evaluates department non-sworn CSO & Records personnel skills/conduct and provides direct employee feedback on an ongoing and immediate basis. Prepares annual evaluations as well.

Coordinates work schedules and shifts for non-sworn CSO & Records personnel relating to the demands of the emergency communications center. Ensures the efficient operation of the emergency communications center.

Oversees the impartial enforcement of College policies, Village and City Ordinances, County Ordinances, State and Federal laws.

Identifies training needs and recommends/obtains appropriate training courses to ensure that the core competencies required of non-sworn personnel are developed and maintained at a professional level.

Responsible for department level system administration for all applications used by the Harper College Police Department. Including, Leads, RMS, Lenel, Simplex, Keystone, etc.

Manages the computerized access control system for all buildings and classrooms. Interacts with internal and external resources to act as a liaison for and to resolve problems and issues within the security environment.

Researches/investigates/recommends infrastructure needs and system updates required to conduct the affairs of the Harper College Police Department

Ensures employee compliance with mandates of the current labor contract.

Assists the department in identifying and placing the necessary procedures in place to ensure professionalism in the emergency communications center.

Provides dispatch services when needed.

Administers the records functions of the department including background checks, reporting crimes, taking bonds and working closely with the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office and the Cook County Clerk’s Office.

Audits records to include entering, maintaining, modifying and updating in accordance with federal, state and local laws.

Keeps the police department records in compliance with the State of Illinois retention schedule.

Receives, processes, stores, and preserves and releases information and records.

Serves as a role model to all department personnel.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice or related field or equivalent experience required.

Experience Requirements: 2 year’s supervisory experience required. 5 years preferred, preferably in a law enforcement setting. Must have a good working knowledge of Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems, preferably the Omnigo system. Working knowledge at a municipal or PSAP emergency communication center preferred. Prior work in college or municipal police records division, certified by the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International or similar telecommunicator training class preferred.
