With a bold new question-based core curriculum, Ursinus College is a selective, independent, co-educational residential liberal arts college of 1,500 students located about 25 miles northwest of Philadelphia. The new Quest curriculum presses students to pursue fundamental questions about their values and their obligations to others—ways to understand the world and, ultimately, their own path of action in life. CPD is integral in helping students along this Quest and answering the four questions that underpin our curriculum, particularly the fourth and final one: What Will I Do?
Strategic Planning
This is an exceptionally opportune time for a new director to join Ursinus as we are launching a new strategic planning process. In addressing the needs of the 21st century, the framing principle of our new strategic plan is “Every Student’s Success.” There is no question that its outcomes must include post-graduate success, and that our focus on “every student” demonstrates a clear need to both centralize and expand the CPD’s influence. The director will help to shape the CPD’s contribution to the new strategic plan while enlivening both the vision and the character of the office well into the future. The college is also a bold advocate of growth and change, focusing on inclusion and equity. As articulated in the Strategic Plan for Inclusion, Ursinus aspires to be an institution that enables all members of its community to feel a sense of belonging and ownership on campus.
The New Director, Career and Post-Graduate Development
The director reports directly to the college’s vice president of academic affairs, who envisions ever more connective tissue between the CPD and the academic mission of the college. This leader creatively and effectively articulates a strategic vision for the office, representing the college among external stakeholders while serving as the primary voice for students on careers and professional growth.
ResponsibilitiesSupervise, lead and mentor a team of five outstanding professionals and several student workers in a collaborative and inclusive style, establishing appropriate performance evaluations and standards. Collaborate with colleagues in Academic Affairs to connect academic preparation, the core curriculum and post-graduate success. Guide the development of creative programming and activities to ensure student success.
Requirements and QualificationsMaster’s degree in college student personnel, higher education administration or a related field with at least 7-10 years of professional experience in career services. Experience serving in a leadership capacity within career services, with progressive leadership experience either as director, associate director, or a similar capacity.
