Job Summary/Basic Function:

Brazosport College, a two-time Top 10 finalist for the Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence and Achieving the Dream Leader College, seeks a dynamic and innovative Director, Library and Learning Services.  This position reports to the Dean of Instruction.  This position:

  • provides strategic and tactical planning for Library and Learning Services resources to meet the instructional and informational needs of the educational programs;
  • assigns and monitors work of staff;
  • conducts performance evaluations;
  • responds to problems of staff;
  • establishes and justifies budget requests, and if circumstances change, determines resource re-allocations;
  • determines Library and Learning Services’ equipment and resource needs;
  • determines Library and Learning Services’ staffing needs;
  • interprets library statistics and prepares reports for state and national agencies, as well as writing applications and responses to accreditation agencies;
  • mends, manages, inventories and weeds the library collection;
  • assists patrons in finding information and using library;
  • instructs in the use of ADA;
  • produces braille documents for visually impaired students;
  • issues photo ID cards and troubleshoots ID equipment;
  • administers Horizon ILS;
  • serves on college committees and provides input for support of educational programs, including chairing the Library and Learning Services Committee and other committees as appropriate; and
  • supports the department’s student success initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications:

The minimum qualifications for this position are:

  • Masters of Library Science Degree (or equivalent) from an American Library Association accredited college/university;
  • Five (5) years of library experience (desirable);
  • Two (2) years supervision in an academic library (desirable);
  • Two (2) years demonstrated expertise in collection development, including building collections for new instructional programs (desirable);
  • Thorough understanding of acquisitions, circulation, cataloging, and serials concepts and preservation/book repair techniques;
  • excellent organizational skills and detail oriented work habits;
  • strong communication skills (oral and written), including strong human relations skills;
  • demonstrated ability working with culturally diverse populations;
  • other qualities, experiences, and skills that enhance one’s value to the institution; and
  • exceptional employment or educational qualifications may be given special consideration.
