Visiting Assistant Professor of Exercise Science
Lyon College invites applications for a three-year visiting
assistant professor of Exercise Science beginning August 2021.
Individuals with specialties in all areas of exercise science are
invited to apply. Special emphasis will be given to
individuals with a background in biomechanics, motor learning, and
clinical exercise physiology. A Ph.D. in Exercise
Science, Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology or a related field is
required; persons who are ABD with a completion date in the very
near future will receive full consideration. Responsibilities
include teaching introductory courses in health and wellness,
fitness assessment, exercise physiology, and advanced courses in
the applicant’s area of expertise; the successful candidate will
also contribute to the college’s liberal arts core curriculum. The
development of a research program involving undergraduates is
expected. Additional responsibilities include academic advising and
college service. Experience at a small residential liberal arts
college as a student or as a faculty member is desirable.
Absent that experience, understanding of the difference between a
small college and a university, and the desire to be on the faculty
of a small college are important. Lyon College is a
USN&WR “top tier” national liberal arts college
affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). It is
located in the foothills of the Ozarks in Batesville, Arkansas, a
safe and convenient town of 10,000 that serves as commercial,
medical, social, and the governmental hub for an eight-county
area. The College enrolls approximately 700 students from
twenty-five states and eleven foreign countries on its picturesque
136-acre campus. Entering freshmen have an average HSGPA of
3.6 and an average ACT of 25. Review of applications will
begin immediately and continue until position is filled. Salary is
commensurate with experience. Interested candidates should send a
cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of teaching philosophy,
research interests, and the names, addresses, phone numbers, and
e-mail addresses of three current references to: Rebecca Varela,
Human Resources Manager, 2300 Highland Road, Batesville, AR 72501
or electronically to jobs@lyon.edu. Lyon College is an equal
opportunity employer. For more information about Lyon College visit
