Assistant Professor in Scenic Design

The Millikin University School of Theatre and Dance is accepting applications for a full-time Assistant Professor in Scenic Design to begin in August 2021.  Millikin is a small, private, liberal arts institution of approximately 1800 students located in Decatur, Illinois.  The nationally recognized School of Theatre and Dance is a vibrant and highly visible component of the campus community serving 260 students in five degree programs including a BA in Theatre and Performance Studies and BFAs in Acting, Design and Production, Musical Theatre, and Stage Management.  This fall, the department moved into a new $29 million Center for Theatre and Dance. 

Responsibilities will include collaborating with other Design and Production faculty on curriculum, as well as teaching classes in scenic design, scenic painting, properties, history of décor, and other design and production topics as expertise allows. The successful candidate will also oversee the scenic paint and properties studios, and design on the  main stage season.  Successful candidates will be highly collaborative and will participate in recruiting, student mentoring, scholarship and/or artistic work, and service to the university.

Required qualifications: MFA in theatre or theatre-related field. Preferred qualifications include experience serving diverse student populations, previous university teaching experience and/or professional design experience.
