General Overview of Duties:

Reporting to and under the general direction of the Associate Dean for Innovation, Interdisciplinary Partnerships, and Community Initiatives with a dotted line to the Director of Peabody Conservatory LAUNCHPad, this full-time position is responsible for supporting existing and new community partnerships connected to the Institute, as well as academic programs and projects with a focus on community engagement. As a member of the Conservatory LAUNCHPad team, the Manager of Community Partnerships teaches, mentors, and manages community-based learning opportunities embedded in and emanating from the Breakthrough Curriculum. In the Office of Community Partnerships, the Manager is responsible for building relationships and programs both within the Baltimore community and beyond to advance Peabody’s institutional vision for community engagement.

Specific Duties: LAUNCHPad (approximately 60%)

  • Mentor and train students in community-based projects and programs
  • Demonstrate/model best practices in mentorship and community partnership.
  • Teach one course per semester in the Breakthrough Curriculum.
  • Manage a portfolio of established local and national community engagement fellowship and residency opportunities and develop additional opportunities.
  • Develop community engagement curriculum/resources as needed.
  • In collaboration with LAUNCHPad director, work with Conservatory faculty to communicate opportunities and solicit student participants for community-based projects.
  • In collaboration with LAUNCHPad staff, oversee external Work Study partnerships
  • Produce JHU- and community-based projects in collaboration with LAUNCHPad staff.
  • Document community activities and provide program information for LAUNCHPad reports.

Specific Duties: Office of Community Partnerships (approximately 40%)

  • Serve as point of contact for external organizations or individuals seeking partnerships with Peabody.
  • Serve as Peabody representative to JHU Community Engagement Program Leaders group and other community boards.
  • Collaborate with Peabody’s Anti-Racism, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Steering Committee and other departments to foster best practices in community engagement in and beyond Baltimore.
  • Research and support development of new continuing education/professional development and community-based Preparatory programming in collaboration with Director of the Preparatory and Associate Dean
  • Provide support and mentorship as needed for Preparatory and Conservatory faculty engaged in community performances and partnerships.
  • Serve as Peabody representative to national community arts organizations.
  • Document community activities and provide program information as requested by External Relations, Communications, and Dean’s offices
  • Produce regular communication for internal and external constituents on community programs.
  • Collaborate with External Relations on donor and grant identification/matching.

Skills:

  • Proven ability to partner with faculty, staff, students, and community organizations to build program.
  • Demonstrated record of consistently excellent customer service to both internal and external constituents.
  • Proven ability to deliver best practices in community engagement work from an asset-based approach.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment in the resolution of problems and to exercise independent initiative in project development and research.
  • Knowledge of Baltimore’s cultural and community organizations
  • Proven ability to develop and implement necessary processes, procedures, systems, courses, performances, projects.
  • Proven ability to create and manage new programs and initiatives.
  • Demonstrated flexibility in a culture of change and proven ability to execute non-standard, non-routine work.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, master’s or doctoral degree preferred.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience
  • Experience in building and running community arts programs.
  • Arts background (performing arts preferred)
  • Teaching experience (college, community arts, and teaching artistry experience are all relevant)
  • Mentoring experience
  • Production management experience within an arts organization
  • Experience with advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in the arts

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
