Data Architect and Report Writer



Job Description:

This full-time professional position serves as a data specialist and analyst for ITS with primary focus on finance and human capital management data needs within Workday and related products. The Data Analyst and Report Writer ensures data is stored accurately, appropriately and with a high level of importance centered on its security to ensure that data can be easily accessed, analyzed and represented by finance and human capital management through reporting tools. Supporting the total data lifecycle, this role will focus primarily on all data and reporting needs of finance and human capital management while enforcing and enhancing institutional data governance activity and policies. The Data Analyst and Report Writer role will also be required to support new data initiatives and related integrations where required.

The Data Analyst and Report Writer must demonstrate exceptional interpersonal, organizational, time management, and analytical skills to produce timely and accurate datasets and reports. The analyst will serve in a role that is managed by ITS with direct accountability for finance and human capital management data needs. The role will be required to assimilate within those functional offices and within the broader ITS department to maximize support options for best possible solutions.

Essential and Related Functions:

  • Supports finance and human capital management initiatives by creating reports, providing environments and solutions to aid in-depth data analysis by others, data summarization, and data visualization as requested.

  • Engages directly with functional offices to define data/report requirements, translate those requirements into actionable plans, and execute those plans to provide quality solutions.

  • Interprets, manages, manipulates and stages back-end data to facilitate ease of access and use by stakeholder offices.

  • Identifies, obtains, and supports analysis of institutional and other relevant data as defined by functional offices in a timely manner, ensuring it is accurate and easily digestible.

  • Creates and delivers reports for internal use by functional offices and/or broader offering for the campus community.

  • Consults functional areas on methods to optimize report development and delivery for highest efficiency and ease of maintenance.

  • Supports and enhances institutional data governance activities and policies.

  • Develops, documents and maintains data environment design for new or revised datasets.

  • Develops and implements training protocols related to reporting and data governance activities.

  • Follows the ITS Information Security Program and industry standard best practices to help ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of all data and IT resources.

  • Other related duties as assigned.



Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required with two or more years of experience successfully developing accurate reports, queries, and other data outputs using common toolsets (examples include Informer, SSRS, Cognos, Excel). Must have proven experience working with datasets from cloud-based, on-premise, and hybrid technical environments; preferably in higher education. Experience working with Workday HCM, Payroll, and Financials datasets/reporting and Workday Prism Analytics familiarity is advantageous in this role. Must have a customer-focused attitude with proven success meeting customer needs in a timely, effective, and innovative manner. Translates business questions and requirements into reports, templates, and analytical views. Must have a demonstrated ability to work with datasets of all types and sizes utilizing analytical and problem-solving skills. Knowledgeable in data gathering, cleaning and transforming techniques with the ability to write complex queries to blend and manipulate data from multiple sources. Strong understanding of data warehousing and ETL techniques. This role requires the ability to interact at all levels of the organization, set and meet deadlines, have excellent attention to detail, manage quality control and troubleshoot data. Must understand technical architecture, security, integrations, reporting platforms, records management, data management, and overall approaches to information accuracy. Demonstrated success dealing with ambiguity and ability to learn on the fly to understand, define, and solve new problems. Must have a proven ability to work and thrive in a team environment and independently: exhibiting an exceptional ability to effectively communicate verbally and written in a manner which is clear, logical and consistent.

Types of Work:

Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Work Schedule: M-F, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm with occasional hours outside of normal business hours to be expected/anticipated. Remote work is a possibility for this role.
