ITS Business Analyst



Job Description:

This full-time professional position serves as a functional business consultant for ITS with business and academic departments throughout the W&L community, specifically focused on enterprise-wide software, systems, and integration services. The Business Analyst translates business needs into software solutions. Solutions may take the form of new application implementations or service rollouts, configuration or security changes to existing solutions, or business process workflow design, as examples. This role has significant responsibility at the enterprise level in the areas of system implementation, support, and maintenance, with a priority focus on Workday HCM and Financials.

The Business Analyst must demonstrate exceptional interpersonal and analytical skills, and the ability to describe, document, and educate both functional and technical audiences. The analyst will serve in a hybrid role, eliciting and translating requirements for functional users and technical developers in addition to architecting business processes, integrations, and more within enterprise systems.

Essential and Related Functions:

  • Designs, develops, implements, supports and optimizes Workday configuration to meet business processes, capabilities and needs.

  • Designs, builds, tests and deploys Workday solutions, including creating test scripts, remediation plans, and support.

  • Manages product lifecycle, inclusive of Workday and other enterprise systems, by:

    • Eliciting and documenting business requirements for application purchase or development.

    • Translating functional requirements into technical specifications (i.e. necessary product integrations).

    • Providing necessary point-of-contact support for customers throughout product implementation.

    • Assisting with internal testing of custom solutions, workflows, and integrations.

    • Supporting community members through complex issues and needs with existing applications and datasets.

  • Develops and maintains system design for new or revised business systems; documents and analyzes input/output requirements, data security, procedural flow between departments, operational audits, and organizational structures.

  • Documents process for functional and technical audiences.

  • Describes and educates on technical architecture for functional and technical audiences.

  • Provides analytical and decision-making support for enterprise systems.

  • Follows the ITS Information Security Program and industry standard best practices to help ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of all IT resources.

  • Other related duties as assigned.



Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required with three to five years of relevant experience, including demonstrated expertise in business analysis, requirements analysis and definition, process analysis, software development lifecycle management, or similar role. Must have proven experience operating within cloud-based, on-premise, and hybrid technical environments; experience in higher education and Workday configuration are preferred. Must have a customer-focused attitude with demonstrated success dealing with ambiguity and ability to learn on the fly to understand, define, and solve new problems using inquisitiveness and innovation to approach architecture and technical problems. Exhibits exceptional ability to effectively communicate verbally and written in a manner which is clear, logical and consistent. Past success in enterprise applications life-cycle support including design, security, deployment, and ongoing support; meeting customer needs in a timely, effective, and innovative manner is essential. Must understand technical architecture, security, integrations, reporting platforms, records management, data management, and overall approaches to information accuracy. The ideal candidate must pay attention to detail while maintaining overall big picture, effectively manage and balance multiple complex work streams. Demonstrated outstanding interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact at all levels of the organization; the ability to work and thrive both in a team environment and independently.

Types of Work:

Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Work Schedule: M-F, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm with occasional nights and weekend hours required. Remote work is a possibility for this role.
