JOB DESCRIPTION

The University of Indianapolis is accepting applications for a Staff Accountant. This is a full-time, exempt staff position. The Staff Accountant is responsible for a variety of accounting functions associated with the maintenance and accuracy of the University’s general ledger and financial statements.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs timely and accurate general ledger reconciliations on a daily, monthly or routine basis as assigned
  • Prepare and enter journal entries for a variety of accounts
  • Set up new general ledger accounts as approved
  • Set up and maintain banner and self-service access for various users as approved
  • Perform general ledger upgrade system testing as requested
  • Maintain the fixed asset ledger and various capital tracking spending worksheets
  • Serve as the accounting administrator of Touchnet Marketplace and credit card terminals
  • Initiates bank wires for accounts payable transactions as approved by the Controller and or CFO
  • Distributes monthly operating reports to budget owners and be a reference for questions around posting in accounts
  • Assists with the loading of the University's fiscal budget each year
  • Assist with the fiscal year end closing and annual audit procedures
  • Assist with management of all Banner software tables and general ledger components ensuring all financial transactions are recorded and applied in accordance with University policy and GAAP
  • Assist and reconcile integrated financial data from non-banner systems
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual 990 tax returns and other required filings
  • Assist in bringing university awareness to financial policies of the University and external sources for compliance purposes, not limited to PCI Compliance issues
  • Ensure documentation is updated and maintained related to procedural workflow for each process
  • Files annual unclaimed property returns and personal property returns
  • Ensures internal controls and policies in the Finance office are followed
  • Special projects and other accounting functions as assigned


QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of two years in a staff accountant or similar role is required
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting is required
  • Excellent Excel skills are required
  • CPA preferred but not required
  • Experience with existing accounting system (Banner) is a plus
