Who We Are

Colorado Law provides a range of free legal representation to low-income Coloradans and non-profit organizations. As part of those services, law students represent clients under the supervision of law faculty. By handling actual cases and projects, students make the transition from legal theory to legal practice. Colorado Law takes pride in the fact that our Clinical Program provides free legal services to many community members who could not otherwise hire an attorney.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Law Practice Office Management
  • With the guidance of the Clinic Director, the Legal Assistant will monitor, develop, and implement law practice management procedures to ensure that all Clinic personnel (law faculty and student attorneys) are meeting professional responsibilities. This includes supervising the Clinic’s use of cloud-based law practice software, creating protocols for filing documents with courts, and instructing student attorneys on legal protocols related to their particular client or project work.

Legal Document Review and Client Support
  • Review all legal documents for compliance with court rules and procedures before documents are filed with a court, and prepare court documents under the direction and review of clinical faculty.
  • Maintain and manage confidential materials for law clinic clients.
  • Conduct brief phone interviews with potential legal clients to determine eligibility for free legal services from the Clinic.

Clinic Financial Affairs and Management
  • Manage financial affairs related to Clinic and clinical faculty. In coordination with the Clinical Director, prepare and monitor the yearly budget for the Clinical Program.
  • Manage financial records related to Clinical funding, including tracking and reporting on gift and endowment funds. Process payments and reimbursements.
  • Coordinate office administration, including monitoring services and supplies for the office.

Legal Clinic Supervision
  • Supervise the Administrative Assistant for the Clinic and up to two work-study students.
