Description
The special education teacher will develop lesson plans and deliver whole group, individual and small group instruction within established curriculum guidelines to assist students with disabilities to succeed in the general classroom environment. Collaboration with university faculty, Burris educators, pre-service teachers, other professional staff and administrators to address instructional and/or classroom challenges, effective communication with parents and guardians, along with strong classroom management and supervision are needed to support the vision and mission of the school.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university by date of appointment; hold or demonstrate eligibility for Indiana certification in elementary, secondary or special education by date of employment.
Authorization to work in the US
Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in special education or related field of study from a regionally accredited university by date of appointment. At least three years experience teaching. Evidence of knowledge and skill in using educational technologies; Evidence of knowledge and skill in working effectively with children with exceptionalities; evidence of knowledge and skill in using educational technologies; evidence of knowledge and skill in working effectively with children with exceptionalities. Orton-Gillingham Certification and Life-Skills experience.
Required Certifications/Licensures
Valid Indiana Teaching License
K-12 Mild Interventions Licensure
Pre-Employment Screening
Requires successful completion of a background check and education verification.
