Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities

The Assistant Director of Administrative Services provides motivation and direction to assignments staff, assesses current practices and make recommendations for increased efficiency and productivity, conduct meetings to develop and review goals/outcomes achieved, provide and solicit feedback, resolution of any outstanding issues and recognize contribution. They will act as the point person in the development and instruction of staff training each semester and throughout the year in regards to assignments, develop and implement additional training opportunities for RLH staff on issues relating to housing assignments, including effective utilization of StarRez. The Assistant Director of Administrative Services will assist with the supervision and management of central office front desk staff, maintain proper operations records, including a reviews of policy/procedures to ensure effectiveness. They will assist with development of weekly, term and annual reports, work to build relationships with the internal and external partnerships. A special focus will be on collaborating to create successful processes which meet the assignment and room selection needs of various Living Learning Communities and Programs and other specialty housing initiatives. They will maintain accurate room occupancy data for the halls, process student requests for room and hall changes, manage administration of the room/hall selection process, investigate and respond to concerns of students, parents, university staff members, and others in a manner that provide accurate information, fosters student development and maintains good public relations. They will assist in the implementation of assessment activities and retention initiatives to improve occupancy and overall effectiveness of on-campus housing, develop short-term and long-term assessment plans regarding student satisfaction, and work with New Student programs, Admissions and other assigned areas to successfully implement tours, information sessions, and department initiatives both during the academic year and the summer. In conjunction with the Senior Associate Director, they will coordinate development of procedural handbooks related to various operational systems, and will assume a leadership role in all assignment processes including room selection for returning and incoming students.

Minimum Hiring Standards

EDUCATION : Master’s degree required in Student Personnel, Higher Education, Counseling or a related field
EXPERIENCE : Excellent administrative, management, and supervision skills. Effective communication skills (oral and written.) Ability to build teams and work collaboratively. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy. Demonstrated proficiency utilizing technology such as web applications, online systems, database software, and standard office packages (word processing, spreadsheet, electronic mail).Ability to work independently and as part of a team, manage several responsibilities at the same time, resolve problems using initiative and sound judgment. Ability to collect, interpret, and report data and to write informational materials and reports. Strong interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with parents, students, and colleagues with a focus on customer service and problem resolution. Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment.

Preferred Hiring Standards

Experience in the use of StarRez or related housing software systems, experience in various facets of housing assignments. An appreciation of the various needs of a diverse student community and understanding the impact housing has on their academic experience.
