Job Description:

The Department of Fine and Performing Arts (FPA) at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) invites applications for part-time instructors in Art History, Arts Management, Music, and Theatre. Candidates should be committed to advancing the causes of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Access through their teaching in undergraduate courses for a public liberal arts college

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Deliver instruction appropriate to the topic, course description, intended learning outcomes, level, and student audience.
  • Promote and facilitate student success by creating an environment conducive to learning and student involvement.
  • Manage the learning environment through effective record-keeping, submitting grades and other reports on time, and enforcing school/campus academic, code of conduct, and attendance policies.


For the Fall 2021 semester, an adjunct instructor is needed for two sections of the following course:

ARTH 117 Introduction to Art History

Introduces art, architecture, and sculpture from prehistory to the present. Focuses on the art of the West with additional discussion of non-Western cultures. Examines major works and artists within their historical, social, and political contexts while tracing principle art movements. Also explores materials and techniques of art making. Course may include field trips to local museums.

The sections are scheduled on Tuesday/Thursday from 10:30 am - 11:45 am and 2:30 pm- 3:45 pm.


Requirements:

Required Qualifications to be considered for the Adjunct Pool:

  • Terminal Degree in the artistic discipline of the course in question preferred; non-terminal Masters level work accepted
  • Undergraduate teaching experience desirable
  • Strong interest in working with students in an interdisciplinary department of with multiple majors across artistic disciplines
