The Department of Romance Languages and Literatures seeks to appoint a tenure-track assistant professor in the field of Italian Medieval literature and culture.  We seek candidates with strong interdisciplinary interests, scholarly depth, and a capacity for innovation. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, typically two courses per semester and including required and elective courses in Italian and Romance Studies. He or she will be expected to contribute to the building of new and innovative programs across the romance fields and university-wide. The appointment is expected to begin on July 1, 2018. 

Candidates may specialize in any area of Italian medieval studies (including Dante or Boccaccio Studies, the literature of the duecento or trecento, manuscript studies, the religious lyric, early prose, and the Sicilian School), but are expected to have a broad overall command of Italian literary history. Cross-disciplinary interests and training in such fields as history, anthropology, music, cultural economics, media history, and the history of art and architecture, among others, are welcome.

Qualifications: Doctorate in Italian Studies or related discipline required by the time the appointment begins. Native or near-native Italian and fluency in English are required, as is demonstrated excellence in teaching and research. An in-depth knowledge of other romance languages and literatures is encouraged.
