The Department of Liberal Arts at the Juilliard School seeks
applicants for a full-time, non-tenure-track, faculty member to
teach first-year courses in any two of the following languages:
French, Italian, and German. A strong background in ESL is
preferred. Ideal candidates will have experience of successful
teaching (at least three years of teaching experience as instructor
of record), demonstrative knowledge of second language development
and pedagogy and the ability to work with a wide range of
constituencies (staff, students, faculty, and administrators) with
diplomacy and tact. The successful candidate will be
expected to teach six courses per year. Applicants must have Ph.D.
in hand. While Juilliard does not grant tenure, new faculty can
expect, after two years of service on annual contracts, to earn
renewable three-year contracts Applicants should
submit: 1. a letter of interest that includes a brief
discussion of teaching experience, current scholarship, and
approaches to teaching and research 2. a curriculum
vitae 3. a more detailed statement of teaching
philosophy, including an explanation of the manner in which a
commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and equity translates
into classroom practice (2 pages max – 1000 words max).
All materials should be received by April 6, 2021. Late
applications may be considered until the position is filled. After
an initial review, some applicants will be asked to submit letters
of recommendation, and a writing sample. Finalists will be asked to
perform a teaching demonstration. Interviews will be held by
videoconference. Receipt of materials will be acknowledged by
