The Faculty of Social Work of the University of Manitoba invites applications for a position at the Assistant Professor rank (tenure-track) OR the Instructor rank (eligible for continuing appointment) at the Inner City Social Work site (ICSW). The anticipated start date for this position is July 1, 2021. Starting salary and rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Candidates who qualify for the Assistant Professor rank will be expected to develop an active research program, and will be given first consideration. Candidates must have at least one social work degree from an accredited university, and must hold or be near completion of a PhD in social work or a related discipline. Duties/responsibilities will include teaching, research and service to the faculty, community and profession. Applicants with experience in community-based and community engaged research, and/or who have demonstrated excellence in post-secondary teaching, will be given favourable consideration. 

Candidates for an Instructor position must hold a Master of Social Work degree from an accredited university. The responsibilities of an Instructor are teaching and service.

The ICSW Access Program is designed for mature undergraduate students facing significant social, academic and financial barriers to post-secondary education (e.g., Indigenous peoples, newcomers to Canada, people living in poverty). The ICSW site is located in Winnipeg’s North End and is closely connected with this community and local organizations. 

Applicants should have substantial understanding of social policy and social work practice as these relate particularly to Indigenous peoples, inner city experiences, and the settlement of refugees and immigrants. Favourable consideration will be given to applicants with strong knowledge of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit cultures and knowledges, and who are familiar with how to ethically and productively engage and collaborate with these communities

The Faculty of Social Work is one of the largest social work programs in Canada, with a proud history of teaching, research and service spanning over 75 years. The Faculty offers the Bachelor, Master, and PhD degrees in Social Work. We offer an established innovative MSW program based in Indigenous Knowledges. Our Faculty is actively engaged in research and academic publication on a wide variety of topics, and the University of Manitoba is part of the U15 group of research intensive Canadian universities. The Inner City site offers rich opportunities for research related to social work in the inner city. Our programs are fully accredited by the Canadian Association for Social Work Education.
