The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Division of Women’s Reproductive Healthcare seeks to add Academic Specialists in General Obstetrics and Gynecology. The Division desires to add clinician educators, minimally invasive gynecologists, and physician scientists. Clinician educators’ responsibilities include establishing a faculty practice in comprehensive obstetrics & gynecology, supervision and teaching of resident physicians and medical students in the inpatient, outpatient, and operating room settings, and taking an active role in the comprehensive educational mission of the Department. The Division is also seeking physician scientists interested in establishing a line of funded research in infectious diseases, uterine fibroids, abnormal uterine bleeding, identification and elimination of health disparities, maternal mortality reduction, or other obstetric or gynecologic niche areas.

The School of Medicine, established in 1969, is made up of nearly 800 students, more than 1,000 residents, and 1,600 full-time faculty in 27 academic departments. We are the home of The Kirklin Clinic, a multi-disciplinary medical home; University Hospital, one of the largest academic hospitals in the country; and the UAB Women & Infants Center.
Since its formation in 1945, the UAB Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology has been dedicated to improving the lives of the women that we serve through excellence in clinical care, research and our training programs that educate the women’s health providers of the future. The department is a national leader in obstetrics and gynecology, with innovative educational programs, groundbreaking research initiatives and a robust clinical practice. The department ranked #15 in the most recent U.S. News & World Report rankings of Gynecology programs and #9 in the Blue Ridge ranking of NIH-funded Ob/Gyn Departments. The department is currently composed of over 40 faculty members, 19 nurse practitioners, 15 fellows, and 32 resident physicians.
