The Department of Comparative Biomedical Sciences at
the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine (LSU
SVM) has a nine- month position available at the Assistant
Professor/Associate Professor/Full Professor level to teach
histology/cell biology in the Anatomy curriculum to first-year
veterinary students. We are especially interested in an individual
with instructional experience in anatomy and pathology who is
comfortable within the 'ONE HEALTH’ paradigm. This individual will
a) introduce first-year veterinary students to the linkage between
anatomical structure in a range of domestic animal species and the
responses to pathologic stimuli/exposures, and b) have a
demonstrated ability to link/compare responses of domestic animals
to disease stimuli with human responses to related stimuli.
Preference will be given to candidates who have an active and
funded (or at least, fundable) research program, and especially to
those candidates whose research program would fit well within the
framework of the LSU SVM COVID-19/SARS-2 research initiative.
The Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of
Histology will teach primarily in the anatomy lectures and
laboratories, with primary assignment in veterinary histo-pathology
and cell biology lectures and laboratories in the veterinary
professional curriculum, and perform other duties as assigned.
He/she should be comfortable within the 'One Health' paradigm.
He/she will mentor professional and graduate students and
contribute service at the department, school, and university levels
and within his/her professional sphere.
Job Responsibilities:
Must be authorized to work in the United States.
Ability and willingness to work periodic odd hours and some holidays in animal/laboratory/class preparation.
*Due to the nature of the position and/or position responsibilities this position shall be subject to drug/alcohol testing in accordance with University Policy Statement 67.
Job Competencies (All Levels): Advanced in Animal handling - capable of handling and embalming large and small animals Proficient in Computer application knowledge - knowledge of applicable computer applications Advanced in Ethical practices and behavior - ability to adhere to and promote ethical business practices Advanced in Medical resources - knowledge of available medical resources and terminology Advanced in Teaching instruction - ability to provide teaching instruction and relate to clinical conditions Advanced in Technical skills - ability to utilize technical skills Advanced in Laboratory safety - ability to work with Biosafety Level II biohazards, incl. infectious diseases Advanced in Personal interaction - ability to interact with others (verbal and written) Advanced in Attention to detail - ability to perform accurately in a detail-oriented environment Advanced in Prioritize and multi-task - ability to prioritize, organize, and perform simultaneously
- Teaching primarily in the gross anatomy curriculum; focus on introducing first-year veterinary students to the link between anatomical structure in a range of domestic animal species and responses to pathologic stimuli/exposures, as well as having demonstrated ability to link/compare responses of domestic animals to disease stimuli with human responses to related stimuli.
- Research experience in setting up a BSL2/3 laboratory, with an active research program that would fit well within the framework of the LSU SVM COVID-19/SARS-2 research initiative
- Contributing service at the department, school, and university levels and within his/her professional sphere, especially in providing assistance to necropsy services, as needed, in the Louisiana Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory ((LADDL) at the LSU SVM.
- Provide teaching instruction to Graduate Students
