Assistant or Associate Professor (General Thoracic and Lung Transplant Surgeon)
The Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking exceptional candidates for a full-time faculty position as a general thoracic and lung transplant surgeon in the Division of General Thoracic Surgery and the Division of Cardiothoracic Transplantation and Circulatory Support at an academic rank (Assistant or Associate) commensurate with experience. The accepted candidate will join a busy team of general thoracic and lung transplant surgeons at Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center, which is situated in the heart of the world's largest medical center and is home to the Texas Heart Institute.
The Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine is committed to excellence in surgical care, education, and research. The first successful heart transplant in the United States was performed here by Dr. Denton Cooley in 1968, and the program continues to be an international leader in the field of clinical heart and lung transplantation. The candidate will also have the opportunity to participate in an established thoracic surgery robotic program. Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center is a leader in the field of portable ex vivo lung perfusion (EVLP) and is center for national PI of the Organ Care System (OCS) lung transplant trials. This is one of many robust opportunities in translational and outcomes research available in our program.
The successful candidate should exhibit a commitment to clinical excellence, innovation, and collaborative practices. The candidate must have an established record of robust clinical experience and outcomes in both general thoracic surgery and lung transplantation, and should be committed to teaching thoracic surgery residents and advanced fellows. The candidate must be American Board of Thoracic Surgery board certified or board eligible and qualify for medical licensure in Texas.
