Position Title Database Administrator Overview
Technical expert responsible for the configuration, installation, patching, and support of the College’s enterprise systems including underlying 3rd party and in-house applications and data warehouse administration.
Essential Duties:
1. Administer the Ellucian Banner and Cyberfriar user security; create, maintain, and refresh Oracle instances/databases for development, test, and production environment; ensure file backup/restore integrity, as well as administration support for all 3rd party enterprise applications and data warehouse.
2. Serve as a technical expert and key contributor providing trouble-shooting for all enterprise systems. Respond to end user issues and requests, bridge communication between users and Ellucian action web, and utilize Oracle’s MOS for issue resolution.
3. Install, update, and maintain software upgrades, patches, and database integrity by executing required software scripts. In conjunction with the user community, schedule, apply, and test all enterprise system upgrades, patches, and resolve data corruption issues.
4. Attend conferences, maintain active membership of technical list serves, research relevant topics on the web and through the use of other resources, and continue education by attending technical training classes.
5. Serve as the primary backup to the Sr. Database Administrator duties in his/her absence.
Marginal Duties:
1. Perform all other duties as may be required.
Education and Experience Required
• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution required, Oracle DBA and UNIX administration certification.
• Three to five years’ of increasing responsibility in computer database administration, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Team player with a high degree of technical judgment.
• Excellent technical communication skills with an ability to work with a broad range of technical and non-technical users.
• Ability and willingness to support a 24/7 environment
