Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Select Agent Program Manager/Responsible Official within the Office of Biological Safety (OBS), this position is part of a team of biosafety professionals specializing in select agents, dual use research of concern (DURC), and high containment (i.e., BSL3) facilities. The Select Agent Program Trainer designs, develops, and implements required and optional training for all registered personnel of the Select Agent Program. Also, this position serves as an Alternate Responsible Official (ARO) for the UW-Madison Select Agent Program.

The Select Agent Program Trainer has a high level of responsibility. Key attributes of the successful candidate include demonstrated skills in written and oral communication, customer service, and relationship building.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Bachelor's degree in biological sciences or related field is required. A M.S. or M.A. is preferred.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Minimum of 5 years of professional experience within high containment, training delivery, or select agent program.

License or Certificate:

Certified Biological Safety Professional (CBSP) or Registered Biosafety Professional (RBP) is desirable.

Additional Information:

The ARO must be available after hours including nights, weekends, and holidays and coordinate out-of-town travel with the RO and other AROs to ensure 24/7/365 response capabilities.

Possession of a valid Wisconsin driver's license and a motor vehicle record that meets UW Risk Management standards to drive State of Wisconsin owned vehicles is preferred.

In the event you are required to work in or around animal facilities, you will be enrolled in the appropriate medical surveillance program. Must be able to pass medical clearance to wear respiratory protection and enter animal facilities.
