Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • One to three years experience in higher education, law enforcement, investigative, and/or legal work.
  • Two or more years of working knowledge of Title IX, including the latest August 2020 regulations, Clery Act, VAWA, and other relevant state and federal statutes.
  • Experience conducting investigations of alleged sex-based misconduct.
  • Two or more years of experience creating, implementing and conducting training and presentations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and/or documented skills in the areas of conflict resolution, problem-solving techniques, interviewing, and/or investigation management.
  • Ability to think critically as demonstrated by the ability to analyze information, evaluate results, and facilitate the resolution of difficult challenges, including the ability to handle issues of complex and extreme sensitivity. Skill in writing concise, logical analytical reports to convey complex issues.
  • Ability to maintain neutrality and work under stress.
  • Commitment to diversity and success in working with diverse constituencies, to support an inclusive campus environment.
  • Strong and effective interpersonal skills; the ability to listen well and demonstrate sensitivity to and respect for individual needs.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional and productive working relationships with different interdisciplinary teams with varying areas of focus and responsibility.

Investigator courses Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Director of Title IX Compliance, the Assistant Director / Senior Deputy Title IX Coordinator is responsible for the following essential functions within the Office of Title IX Compliance at Appalachian State University:
  • Provide support to ensure compliance with University Policy, Title IX, Title VII, and the Clery Act.
  • Coordinate the receipt of sex-based misconduct concerns and reports, providing initial support, resources and reporting options with appropriate offices and/or administrators.
  • Assist in the management of the day-to-day responsibilities associated with the University's TIX compliance obligations.
  • Assist in providing oversight of TIX investigations as delegated by the Title IX Coordinator, as appropriate.
  • Serve as a Title IX Investigator when appropriate.
  • Work with the Title IX Coordinator to implement and monitor appropriate policies, procedures, grievance processes.
  • Implement training programs regarding and in compliance with Title IX for faculty, staff, and students.
  • Make determinations, in conjunction with the Title IX Coordinator, regarding requests made by students and/or employees for interim measures including but not limited to academics, housing, employment, transportation, etc.
  • Collect and analyze institutional data on TIX efforts in order to identify and assess trends with the purpose of developing strategies for Title IX compliance.
  • Train and serve as departmental point person for Deputy Title IX Coordinators in Athletics, Human Resources, and the Academy at Middle Fork.
  • Serve on campus committees and represent the interests of the Office of Title IX Compliance to other campus constituents.
  • Serve in the capacity as the Title IX Coordinator upon delegation of such responsibilities.
  • Complete annual and ongoing training regarding Title IX and related topics.
  • Represent Appalachian State University and its interests at regional, state, and national meetings and events.
  • Other duties as assigned.
