The Department of Education at Muskingum University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in Education at the Assistant Professor level, beginning with the fall semester of 2021. The position requires teaching in the undergraduate and graduate teacher preparation programs, fieldwork supervision, advising of licensure candidates, conducting research in the field of education, and actively engaging in university and community service. Teaching responsibilities will include courses with content focus in the science of reading, literacy, assessment, language arts, and other topics supporting the education curriculum. Advising the Muskingum student organizations and sponsoring annual outreach events with local school districts, their students, and staff is an opportunity to connect with the broader community.

Applicants must have doctoral-level preparation reading, literacy, or curriculum and instruction plus tested experience in the science of reading. Candidates who are ABD will be considered, with the understanding that the doctoral degree will be completed within one year and rank will be instructor. Strong preference will be given to those who hold or are eligible for a current teaching license in Adolescent Young Adults or Middle Childhood English Language Arts or a related field. Consideration will also be given to applicants with background and experience across grade levels and activities aligned to literacy education.   An equal opportunity employer, Muskingum University, particularly welcomes applications from scholars who are from populations historically underrepresented in the academy, and/or who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.

Muskingum is a comprehensive university with a strong liberal arts tradition located just seventy miles east of Columbus, Ohio, in the village of New Concord.  The university’s total undergraduate, graduate, and adult-learner student population is approximately 3,000.  The university actively seeks-out and welcomes faculty and staff who are committed to excellence in teaching and student learning, thrive in a collaborative environment of scholars, embrace experiential learning, consider the engagement of diverse communities in the educational experience, and have a desire to mentor a multicultural student population.  Muskingum University is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
