Serve as artistic director for lyric productions, showcases and workshops in the Conservatory; teach undergraduate and graduate courses in opera and/or musical theatre, according to field of expertise and the needs of the Conservatory; work collaboratively with the Conservatory faculty in choosing repertoire, casting, developing classes and coursework, and the general production of lyric theatre; work as a liaison between the Theatre and Music Performance Divisions and our producing partners, as well as our Young Artist Program partners at the Lyric Opera of Kansas City; maintain a national professional profile that reflects the career of a distinguished artist/scholar; contribute to the creative/scholarly, academic and service environments characteristic of a Conservatory within a university; enrich the diverse cultural environment of the Kansas City metropolitan community; participate actively in the intellectual life of the Conservatory and university by serving on committees and engaging in other Conservatory activities; contribute to curriculum development, faculty governance and administrative activity of the Music Performance and Theatre Divisions.

The Director of Lyric Theatre is open rank: Ranked, non-tenure track or tenure track/tenure eligible. Full-time, benefit-eligible.

DATE OF APPOINTMENT: September 1, 2021

QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated successful and innovative experience in directing for opera and/or musical theatre, preferably at the university level; excellent collaborative skills and significant professional experience in opera and/or musical theatre; documented success as an artistic leader; strong commitment to both undergraduate and graduate level teaching; significant professional experience at the regional and/or national level as an director/scholar; experience with contemporary opera-theatre and the desire to combine performance, technology and media arts preferred; terminal degree in a relevant field, or equivalent professional experience.

SALARY:  Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
