Job Description

Reporting to the Director of Development (PCOB), the Director of Major Gifts in the Pamplin College of Business will qualify, cultivate, and solicit philanthropic contributions from a portfolio of Pamplin alumni and friends. Solicitation range typically will fall in the range of $100,000 to $1 million. The Director of Major Gifts is responsible for the design and implementation of thoughtful, donor-centric strategies in support of college and university priorities. The Director will also assist with selected stewardship of major gift donors. S/he will be a highly motivated and experienced fundraising professional with excellent inter-personal communication skills. S/he will be deeply involved in the fundraising efforts of the Pamplin College of Business in support of current operations and endowment. With a $250 million building project underway, top rated academic programs, 21 Pamplin volunteer advisory boards and 550+ engaged volunteers serving on these boards, the successful candidate will be joining a best-in-class advancement team.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and major gifts fundraising experience.

The successful candidate will show evidence of the ability to cultivate, solicit, close and steward major gifts for high level donors.

S/he will be self-motivated while also embracing the concept and attitude of collaborative teamwork in a complex organization.

Highly developed interpersonal communication skills.

Maintains high ethical standards, demonstrated experience handling confidential information and evidence of flexibility in the workplace.

Experience with office software applications such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook or similar programs.

Experience with relational database manipulation.

Attention to detail and time management along with on-going interest in learning are critical skills that will lead to success.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference given to candidates with experience in higher education fundraising.

Demonstrated ability to design and/or orchestrate complex major gift strategies.

S/he has experience motivating and/or managing volunteers.

Project management or outside sales experience.
