Now in its twelfth year of operation, Al-Quds Bard College for Arts and Sciences (AQB) is an  innovative program offering a liberal arts undergraduate education and Master of Arts in Teaching program in Palestine, with an enrollment of 300 students in 2020-21. AQB’s  undergraduate program is rigorous, culminating in a two-semester independent senior  project, which, in the sciences, is generally a demanding original research project.  Graduates of AQB receive dual degrees: a BA or a MAT from Al-Quds University and from  Bard College (New York).

Al-Quds Bard College seeks a full-time faculty member in its science division to head the  College’s current program in Computer Science and to develop interdisciplinary new  curricular initiatives that will integrate study of computer science and technology with  other liberal arts disciplines. As head of computer science, the faculty member will  coordinate CS offerings, drawing on Al-Quds University faculty, will teach CS courses as  appropriate, and will support undergraduate students undertaking year-long senior  projects. An equally important responsibility will be to contribute to the development of  the integration of computer science and other technical fields into other areas of study at  AQB, potentially including media studies, biology, business, entrepreneurship, and the  humanities. The successful candidate will have strong skills and teaching experience in computer science and/or technology, and will also be comfortable with and excited by  opportunities to advance the integration of technology throughout many fields in a liberal  arts curriculum.

Full-time faculty teach three courses per semester, supervise a minimum of two senior  projects, and are assigned a group of advisees to whom they provide academic guidance  throughout the year. Faculty are expected to engage in community service to contribute to  the development of AQB. This includes, but is not limited to, participation in academic  committees, admissions interviews, moderation boards, faculty development workshops,  faculty meetings, and additional administrative tasks, as needed. AQB faculty are also  engaged regularly in activities of the Open Society University Network, a global network  that provides opportunities for collaborative teaching, research, and professional  development through in-person and virtual exchange.

Qualifications
Excellence in and commitment to teaching at the undergraduate level is of primary  importance. We seek faculty whose teaching methods are student-centered, involving  students in active discussion and group tasks to develop their reading, writing, speaking,  and critical thinking skills in English. Candidates should be truly interdisciplinary—we seek someone who will creatively and intellectually challenge the standard methods of  academic inquiry, and who can integrate both theoretical and practical approaches to learning.

Required qualifications:

  • PhD in computer science, technology, or a related field preferred; Master’s degree with significant experience will be considered
  • College-level teaching experience
  • Enthusiasm for the mission of AQB to provide student-centered teaching, foster  critical thinking, and incorporate writing into most courses
  • Fluent English, ability to communicate in Arabic a plus

Application Instructions
To apply, submit a CV; a cover letter that addresses your interest and background as it  relates to this position; evidence of teaching effectiveness, student evaluations and syllabi (optional); and one to three letters of reference through Interfolio at http://apply.interfolio.com/85316  Review of applications will  commence on 15 April 2021.
