The jobholder advises students on the development of educational plan options and resources available, and makes appropriate referrals to assist students in evaluation of their educational progress. The jobholder coordinates the day to day operations of the disAbility Access Services Office, and provides provision of services to students with disabilities. The jobholder also works with staff and faculty to provide instruction and services to students with disabilities. S/he provides intake, analyzes documentation to determine appropriate accommodations, maintains confidential student records, provides academic and personal counseling, networks with and refers to outside agencies, and participates in faculty and staff training. S/he is responsible for ensuring that services to students with documented disabilities are provided in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. S/he also provides counseling services to students and prospective students including personal counseling, crisis intervention and community resource referrals. Additionally, s/he is responsible for maintaining and providing accurate information on certificates, diplomas, university transfers, and career exploration.
Education Required: - Master's degree in counseling, social work, psychology, student development, special education or related field from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution
Experience Required: - At least 1 year of counseling, social work psychology, student development, special education experience or acceptable equivalent of internship and education.
Experience Preferred: - 2 years working with students with disabilities, specifically learning disabled students in a post-secondary setting is preferred. - Community college experience preferred. - Supervisory experience preferred - Certification and/or licensure as a professional counselor preferred.
