GRINNELL COLLEGE – PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND RECREATION – ONE-YEAR TERM POSITION AS LECTURER/GRINNELL OUTDOOR LEADERSHIP PROGRAM DIRECTOR – FALL OF 2021.

GRINNELL COLLEGE. The Department of Physical Education and Recreation invites applications for a 10-month term appointment in PE and recreation beginning Fall 2021. Lecturer in PE, master’s degree preferred or bachelors and experience in appropriate field. Research and teaching interests might include, but are not limited to: various areas of outdoor recreation. Appointees will be responsible for all areas of the Outdoor Recreation Programs at Grinnell College including organizing and leading activities, training and supervising student staff, program risk management, and teaching in the PE program.  This position will include some evening and weekend responsibilities.

Requirements: Master’s or bachelor’s degree in related field, or degree with work experience in outdoor recreation field.  Proven climbing wall management experience including:  training, hiring and supervising student leaders, creating and enforcing climbing wall policy, climbing wall risk management, hands on teaching of climbing, wilderness first aid, and experience in leading and supervising outdoor activities such as biking, hiking, canoeing, etc. Must be capable of driving a passenger van with trailer. 

 

Preferred: MA in recreation or related field; paddle sports proficiency; experience supervising equipment rental/loan operations; experience teaching, climbing, kayaking and outdoor theory; and experience leading wilderness multi-day canoe or backpacking trips.
