Assistant Vice Provost for Academic Operations and Advising

What We’re Looking For

Baylor University is seeking an Assistant Vice Provost for Academic Operations and Advising with strong leadership and program management skills. Previous experience advising students is strongly preferred, and prior experience leading a team is required. This position must collaborate successfully and establish strong relationships with deans, associate deans, and faculty members concerning proposed curriculum and related programmatic changes within academic areas across the University. Additionally, the Assistant Vice Provost will work closely with the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education (VPUE) in evaluating and making recommendations on academic appeals and providing assistance with the review and adjudication of Honor Council cases. The Assistant Vice Provost also will work closely with Baylor’s Associate Vice Provost for Academic Enrollment Management (AVPAEM) to provide direction and leadership for the future of academic advising at Baylor. Reporting jointly to the VPUE and the AVPAEM, the individual selected for this position must be highly adept at navigating complex situations, balancing competing factors when making decisions, and assisting concerned parents and students as they navigate undergraduate life at Baylor.

• Ability to communicate priorities and initiatives at an early stage of development so that groups such as the Advising Leadership Council can speak into them at the inception phase
• Ability to speak into processes and decision-making
• Ability to influence and lead a diverse team in the midst of competing goals and priorities
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse constituencies to resolve complex problems
• Experience in higher education, particularly within a tier-one, private setting
• Experience with curriculum development
• Experience working with university faculty
• Commitment to furthering Baylor’s Christian mission

A Master’s Degree, five years of relevant work experience, and an active Christian faith are required. A Doctoral degree and eight years of relevant work experience are preferred.

What You Will Do

• Work collaboratively with associate deans and advising leads to interpret policy and implement quality, consistent advising campus wide. Chair the Advising Leadership Council in a shared governance model where representatives from each academic unit and University Advisement gather to provide input into policies and procedures toward the end of ensuring high-quality advising for all students.
• Collaborate with all academic advising leads and numerous departments on campus to facilitate seamless processes for the onboarding of new students and students in transition from one major or program to another.
• Working in collaboration with the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education and the Associate Vice Provost for Academic Enrollment Management, develop and implement practices and policies that enhance undergraduate four-year graduation rates and ensure high-quality educational experiences for all Baylor undergraduates.
• Coordinate with the VPUE, the Office of Academic Integrity, and staff within the Office of the Provost to manage the review of Honor Council cases.
• Assist the VPUE with the management of undergraduate academic appeals and parental concerns, the undergraduate curriculum review process, and the management of transfer credit processes and decision making.
