Bachelor’s degree in higher education administration, ethnic studies, organizational management, or closely related field. Master’s degree preferred. Five years of relevant professional work experience in a management or leadership role within higher education including oversight of students or staff with the ability to recruit and retain diverse students and/or employees. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.

Nature & Purpose of Position

Responsible for the development and implementation of strategies to recruit, retain, and develop students, faculty, and staff who are under-represented or historically marginalized within the College of Criminal Justice.

Primary Responsibilities

Serves on the College of Criminal Justice Executive Leadership Team as the head of diversity efforts. Assists in the development and implementation of plans for recruiting and retaining diverse students, staff, and faculty. Ensures that the College of Criminal Justice ( COCJ ) and Criminal Justice Center ( CJC ) efforts align with the needs of increasingly diverse populations in Texas and nationally. Develops and supports supportive networks for Black, Indigenous and People of Color ( BIPOC ) faculty to enhance retention efforts. Assists in the identification of the changing needs of an increasingly diverse Texas population relative to criminal justice systems and developing the COCJ / CJC responses thereto. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Other Specifications

Works closely with the Dean and the directors of the various centers and institutes that compose the Criminal Justice Center. Solid visioning skills, including an understanding of both institutional and national trends and best practices. Strong communication and presentation skills. Ability to work collaboratively with external constituencies and to think critically to integrate complex operational, practical, systemic, and pedagogical considerations. Demonstrated ability to coordinate, facilitate, and chair meetings for the purpose of resolving differences and working towards institutional goals. Excellent organizational skills in identifying and prioritizing work activities. Ability to exercise sound, independent judgement.

This position may be designated as a Campus Security Authority ( CSA ).
