This position involves conducting research related to evaluations of Virginia Medicaid programs, including the Addiction Recovery and Treatment Services, Commonwealth Coordinated Care Plus, and Medicaid expansion. Responsibilities include working with the Principal Investigator to design and conduct mix-methods research tasks, including analysis of Medicaid claims data, surveys of Medicaid members, analysis of other secondary data sources, and qualitative research. The successful candidate is expected to lead and oversee specific research tasks, including research design, overseeing the work of data analysts in statistical programming, preparation of project reports and papers for peer review journals, and presentation of results to the Department of Medical Assistance Services, other government agencies, and at professional conferences. The candidate will also be able to develop their own research agenda, including research activities not directly related to the Medicaid evaluations, as well as developing and submitting grant proposals. Potential opportunities also exist for teaching graduate level courses related to health policy and research methods.

Required Qualifications

The successful applicant will have a Ph.D. in one of the following areas; health services research, health policy research, health administration, health economics, or related area. Strong quantitative skills and experience in working with large complex databases are essential, as are strong written and oral communication skills. Knowledge of and experience in conducting research on Medicaid programs at the state or national level is strongly preferred, especially in the areas of behavioral health, maternal and child health, disabled populations, and dual Medicare-Medicaid eligibles.
