About Northeastern:
Founded in 1898, Northeastern is a global research university and the recognized leader in experience-driven lifelong learning. Our world-renowned experiential approach empowers our students, faculty, alumni, and partners to create impact far beyond the confines of discipline, degree, and campus.

Our locations—in Boston; Charlotte, North Carolina; London; Portland, Maine; San Francisco; Seattle; Silicon Valley; Toronto; Vancouver; and the Massachusetts communities of Burlington and Nahant—are nodes in our growing global university system. Through this network, we expand opportunities for flexible, student-centered learning and collaborative, solutions-focused research.

Northeastern's comprehensive array of undergraduate and graduate programs— in a variety of on-campus and online formats—lead to degrees through the doctorate in nine colleges and schools. Among these, we offer more than 195 multi-discipline majors and degrees designed to prepare students for purposeful lives and careers.

Maintains the laboratory and may exercise functional supervision over supporting research staff. Primary responsibility is ensuring that the research is complete. The appointment generally does not extend beyond two years.

Responsibilities:
70 % Assist in initiating, executing, and completing in silico

bioinformatics based experiments.

15 % Prepare and write research papers, presentations, grant

proposals, etc.

10 % Laboratory Management.

5 % Train graduate students.

Qualifications:
Must have a Ph.D. or equivalent; be able to undertake substantially full-time research or scholarship; work under the supervision of a senior scholar.

Preferred Qualifications:

We are seeking a creative scientist with a background in computational biology and microbiology to lead a genomic analysis-based antibiotic discovery project.

The successful applicant will join a team of talented researchers at the Antibiotic Discovery Center. Several drug lead candidates came out of our Center - ADEP (Conlon et al., Nature 2013); teixobactin (Ling et al., Nature 2015); darobactin (Imai et al., Nature 2019), and additional ones are in the process of characterization. Our findings show that there is a great opportunity to speed up discovery by introducing genomics-based computational approaches to identify both superior analogs of novel compounds we discovered, and novel ones based on pattern and network analysis of biosynthetic gene clusters.

The project is multidisciplinary and involves collaborators from both local (Harvard, MIT, Tufts) and national/international Institutions.

A strong record of publications in computational biology focused on microbial genomics is an essential requirement. Familiarity with biosynthetic gene clusters is a plus. The appointment will be for a minimum of 2 years with possible extension, starting immediately. If needed, work can be performed remotely. Competitive salary commensurate with experience, up to $55,000 annually, and a package of benefits.
