Overview

The Director of Educational and Student Success Center provides direct support to the UAMS Strategic Plan to develop the talent-rich community of educators across all five colleges, the graduate school, and the Division of Academic Affairs. This full-time, twelve-month, non-tenure track faculty position reports to the Associate Provost for Academics with academic appointment within the Office of Educational Development.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership in the needs assessment, design, implementation, and evaluation of educational activities of the Educators Academy.
  • Provides leadership and direct managerial oversight of the Educational and Student Success Center faculty and staff members (who support UAMS students through testing and educational programs, web page development and maintenance, writing assistance, online educational materials, educational technology, and interdepartmental projects in support of missions of UAMS).
  • Manages the daily work of the Writing Center and Student Learning Services including responsibility for budgetary oversight.
  • Chairs the Academic Affairs Educational and Student Success Center Advisory Committee.
  • Conducts activities to promote and celebrate excellence in education, encourages curricular and teaching innovation in both didactic and clinical environments, and nurtures the educational development of faculty.
  • Directly coordinates and participates in teaching workshops, Teaching Observation by Peers, and other teaching-related faculty development opportunities in coordination with faculty center.
  • Oversees annual Educational Grants and Chancellor’s Teaching Awards calls and respective review processes.
  • Provides direct consultation and mentoring to faculty in development of teaching expertise, assessment tools, and educational scholarship.
  • Promotes goals from Vision 2029 to encourage curricular and teaching innovation; nurture educational development of faculty; and promote educational scholarship, including research in education, and to foster interprofessional collaboration among educators throughout UAMS.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in education, adult education, health sciences, public health, or health-related social sciences PLUS ten (10) years of related experience
  • Five (5) years of teaching experience in discipline working with diverse faculty
  • Demonstrated success in educational administration and leadership

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Terminal Degree (e.g. M.D., Ph.D., Pharm.D., or Ed.D.) in education, adult education, health sciences, public health, or health-related social sciences

Preference given to candidates with experience in educational pedagogy, active learning strategies, academic health education, and clinical teaching

Competencies:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Superb collaboration skills incorporating effective group processes to achieve desired programmatic goals
  • Ability to work well independently, as part of a team and as the leader of the team
  • Experience in grant writing, program development, project management, and meeting management
